This financial award aims to encourage the most socio-economically disadvantaged students to participate and succeed in higher education. Any students entering 1st year of their undergraduate degrees in the academic year 2022/23 can apply for this award to study in Irish higher education institutions and colleges with a limited number of bursaries.

Benefits of the 1916 Bursary Fund for Under-Represented Students in Ireland
Winning students will benefit from the 1916 Bursary Fund as follows:
- Tier One: For the academic year 2022, a total of 253 new entrant undergraduate students will benefit from €5,000 per annum for their studies.
- Tier Two: For the academic year 2022, a total of 121 new entrant undergraduate students will benefit from €2,000 per annum for their studies. This amount is for applicants who did not ultimately qualify for a Tier 1 bursary but meet the criteria for the 1916 Bursary.
- Tier Three: Tier three is a once-off bursary valued at €1,500, only payable for the academic year 2022/23. The number of beneficiaries depends on the remaining funding available to each cluster following the allocation of Tier 1 and 2 2 bursaries.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants who meet the following eligibility criteria can apply for the 1916 Bursary Fund:
- Applicant should be a student entering 1st year of their undergraduate full or part-time degree in the academic year 2022/23. Students entering directly to year 2 of a program can also apply.
- You should prove an assessable household income of less than €24,500 in 2021
- Candidates should be from one or more of the target groups: Socio-economically disadvantaged, qualify under Student Grant Scheme (SUSI) for the special rate of maintenance grant, socio-economically disadvantaged mature students who are 23 or older on 1 January of their year of entry to higher education, students with a disability, the Irish Traveller community members, the Roma community members, carers students confirmed by Department of Social Protection (DSP), lone or teen parents approved by Department of Social Protection (DSP), and migrants, refugees students or who are from ethnic minorities.
- Must meet the college entry criteria: Be resident in the Irish State for three of the past five years, study full-time or part-time undergraduate course, and be a new entrant pursuing an undergraduate course.
- You must meet additional criteria of the 1916 Bursary.
