The purpose of the scholarship is to support and inspire ambitious students who are unable to pursue or complete their master’s degree program. Scholarships are awarded to students for a tenable one-year academic session of 2023-2024. The award covers full tuition fees for the full-time, one-year session.
About the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine
The London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSTHM) is a public research university in Bloomsbury, central London and a member of the University of London that specializes in public health and tropical medicine.
The organization was established by Sir Patrick Manson in 1899 as the London School of Tropical Medicine after a donation was made by the Indian Parsi philanthropist B. D Petit. As defined by its foundation, the institution has emerged as one of the most highly placed institutions in global rankings in the fields of public health and infectious diseases.
The institution’s annual income for 2021-2022 was £260.0 million of which £175.3 million came from research grants and contracts, with expenditures amounting to £291.6 million in that same year. Additionally, the institution has one of the largest endowments per student in the United Kingdom.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation awarded the institution the 2009 Gates Award for Global Health and it received a $1 million prize. The award recognises organizations that have made outstanding contributions to improving global health.
In 2016, LSTHM won the university of the year award from Times Higher Education for its response to the Ebola epidemic in West Africa in 2014 and 2015. It won the Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2017 for the same purpose and also won another Queen’s Anniversary Prize in 2021 for its impact on Covid-19 and pandemic preparedness.
LSHTM’s international profile has led to extensive collaboration with institutions around the world, including in many low- and middle-income countries. Between 2014 and 2018, 78% of its publications were written with an international partner and 65% were written in partnership. Their partnership extends to Africa, North America, and Europe. It is also a member of different health networks.
In addition, the institution offers a Professional Diploma in Tropical Medicine & Hygiene. This is through a collaboration with Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College, Makerere University, the University of Washington and John Hopkins University.
Also, it offers joint master’s programmes in health policy, planning and financing with the London School of Economics. These include Global Mental Health with King’s College London and One Health as well as Veterinary Epidemiology with the Royal Veterinary College.
The LSHTM also has partnerships with corporate entities. These include Johnson & Johnson, GlaxoSmithKline, Ricketts, Medecins Sans Frontieres and the International Committee of the Red Cross. The institution was also ranked as the 6th top institution in the world for impact based on the top 1% of published papers in all fields.
In addition, it is home to four World Health Organization Collaborating Centres and participates in many research groups and initiatives across the globe. London Scholarship eligibility criteria

- The scholarship covers all courses or subjects related to the master’s program.
- MSc Public Health For Eye Care applicants must be admitted to the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Benefits of applying for the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine Scholarship
- Applicants will be awarded full tuition fees for MSc Public Health for Eye treatment at the current rate of the university.
- GBP 19,500.00 tax-free allowances for accommodation, visa and other international health insurance.
- GBP 1,500.00 to cover MSc projects.
- GBP 1,100.00 will be given to applicants after completing course attendance at the Alumni Workshop during the week of the graduation ceremony.
