Slovakia NSP Scholarships for international students is now open for application. The National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic was established in 2005 with approval from the Slovak Republic’s government to encourage students, Ph.D., university teaching, researcher, and artistic mobility. The Ministry of Education, Science, Research, and Sport of the Slovak Republic provides funding for the NSP, or National Scholarship Program. The National Scholarship Program of the Slovak Republic encourages international students’ mobility for fellowship stays at higher education institutions and research organizations in Slovakia. It also supports the mobility of Ph.D. students, university lecturers, researchers, and artists.

Benefits of the Slovakia NSP Scholarships
- The scholarship is designed to support foreign scholarship recipients’ living expenses while studying, conducting research, creating art, or teaching at Slovakian universities and research institutions, including food, lodging, and other living expenses.
- The scholarship recipient may seek their host institution for assistance with housing and other procedures associated with coming and remaining on Slovak Republic territory, or they may take care of all the requirements themselves.
- Monthly amount for university students of the second level of higher education is 400 €.
- Monthly amount for Ph.D. students is 734 €.
- Monthly amount for university teachers/researchers/artists:
- Students without a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) and having fewer than four years of experience working as a university instructor, researcher, or artist is 734 €.
- Having a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) and fewer than ten years of experience working as a university instructor, researcher, or artist is 980 €.
- Possessing a Ph.D. (or its equivalent) and having worked as a university teacher, researcher, or artist for more than ten years is 1050 €.
- Students and Ph.D. students can be awarded a travel allowance if they apply for it along with their scholarship application. The amount of the travel allowance is determined by the distance (measured in a straight line) between the applicant’s home and the location of their stay in Slovakia:
- distance up to 350 km – 0 €,
- distance more than 350 km, max. 2,000 km – 250 €,
- distance more than 2,000 km, max. 7,000 km – 500 €,
- distance more than 7,000 km – 1 000 €.
Note: Only job experience up until the day of the application deadline is included for calculating the monthly scholarship amount (in the case of university teachers, researchers, and artists).
Ph.D. coursework is counted as job experience, but only for six years.
Eligibility for Students
- Students who are college students in institutions outside of Slovakia.
- Students enrolled in a master’s program at the second level of higher education or students who have finished at least 2.5 years of university coursework in the same study program as the application deadline.
- Students who will be enrolled at a public, private, or state institution in Slovakia during their higher education abroad and who will be granted academic mobility to study in Slovakia.
All three requirements must be satisfied. Ph.D. studies are not included in this category (or their equivalent).
Eligibility for Ph.D. Students
- Ph.D. candidates accepted by a public, private, or state university or research institution in Slovakia are eligible to pursue a doctoral study program and are also suitable for academic mobility to study, conduct research, or engage in artistic endeavors while in Slovakia. Examples of such candidates include the Slovak Academy of Sciences.
Eligibility for international university teachers, researchers, and artists
- International university professors, researchers, and artists who have been asked to spend time teaching, doing research, or performing art in Slovakia by a body with a Slovakian office and a current certificate of eligibility to conduct research and development.
Duration of The Program
- The length of a student’s scholarship stay is one to two complete semesters (four to five or ten months), or one to three full semesters if the academic year is broken into semesters (i.e., 3 – 4 or 6 – 7 or 9 – 10 months).
- Scholarship stays for Ph.D. students can last between one or ten months.
- Scholarship stays can last between one or ten months for university instructors, researchers, or artists.

- Curriculum vitae.
- Motivation letter.
- Detailed study program.
- The applicant’s university teachers issued two recommendation letters.
- Certification from the applicant’s home university attests that the applicant was enrolled as a full-time student at the time of application.
- A copy of the applicant’s bachelor’s degree, the diploma supplement, and, if appropriate, their state examination certificate. (Optional)
- Admissions letter or invitation from the applicant’s host university in Slovakia detailing the duration of the stay.
Documents Requirement for International Ph.D. Students
- Curriculum vitae.
- Motivation letter.
- Detailed study/research/artistic program.
- Recommendation letter issued by applicant’s dissertation supervisor.
- A statement from the applicant’s home university or research organization attesting that the applicant is enrolled as a typical Ph.D. student there as of the application deadline.
- A copy of the applicant’s state examination certificate, diploma supplement, and master’s degree in a scannable format. (Optional)
- list of publications and creative endeavors in the necessary format
- Admittance or invitation letter from the applicant’s Slovakian host university or research organization, specifying the duration of the stay, in the proper format.
Documents Requirement for International university Teachers/Researchers/ and Artists
- Curriculum vitae.
- Detailed teaching and research/artistic program.
- Scan of applicant’s diploma of the highest academic degree achieved.
- list of publications and creative endeavors in the necessary format
- Admittance or invitation letter from the applicant’s Slovakian host university or research organization, specifying the duration of the stay, in the proper format.
Note: Only Slovak or English may be used to submit (fill out) applications and the necessary attachments.
